Great option at first, motor seems to lose power after a while Jan 14, 2007
By Anne Parson 03/29/2007 update: OK, I have had this for a couple of months now, and I have started to see the problems other people have mentioned. The rake is not powerful enough to take the waste to the disposal container and I end up scooping it like a normal litter. I also purchased the larger size at the same time and that one has not had this problem. Either that one has a different component or the quality control of these and deviations in production make the power behind the motor really variable depending on which unit you get. Buy the small size at your own risk. I would downgrade this to a 1 star at this point but they don't have that option once it's submitted.
Previous Review: I used to have the old model over 7 years ago when they first came out, but the rake was not detachable and made cleaning very difficult.
One of my 4 cats is very picky about her litter and I decided to give this new model, which easily detaches for cleaning, a try. I have had it for a week with no problems (and this with 4 cats).
I have left the old litter boxes (2) just in case, but they seem to prefer this for the number ones. I think they like deeper fill for number twos, which is one negative, you can only put in the litter about 1 1/2 inches deep.
So far no problems with the rake getting stuck, although I think I might get a mega sized one next since it seems a little short where they are always going right at the very end in the corner.

Much quieter than the old one. Aug 24, 2011
By susie This is the 3rd Littermaid that I have purchased. My experience with these products have always been positive in the past, but they do wear out about every 4 or 5 years. My only complaint on this new model is that the lid sometimes gets stuck in the open position and does'nt close automatically. It becomes an odor issue if you aren't there to close it manually. At the end of the day, it still beats scooping! And my cat loves it!!

Worst litter box ever Aug 09, 2007
By J. Gerber It didn't scoop, it scattered litter everywhere, and it made tons of noise. Also, the Kitty Cabana accessory is very poorly made. Even the hand tool that comes with this product is undersized and not functional. I replaced it with a regular deep litter box with a hood.

This model is a piece of crap! Nov 05, 2011
By ShawnieT We loved our original littermaid. It lasted for five years and we could use any scoopable litter. It was the one that the prongs were plastic and they were not removable. It scooped out all the poop. This model stinks! It doesn't scoop out the poop. The pee gathers at the bottom because the prongs do not reach to the bottom of the box. The poop gets caught just before the bin and the time between scoops is too prolonged. DO NOT BUY the littermaid elate with the removable prongs!!!! We have to clean the box manually daily even though the box is on.

Completely Worthless Jun 11, 2008
By J. Young Even when using their Brand litter, this box is useless. It scatters clumps, jams, and the motor sounds like a small a/c airplane landing in your apartment. I only have one cat, so we are talking maybe two daily visits This is a joke and the company should have to refund money back to anyone who purchased it.
